The Senior Citizens Act aims to support the following:
- Self-determination for the individual senior citizen
- Trust in employees and management
- Close interaction with relatives, civil society and local communities
Holistic care
Holistic care is offered and provided in a few comprehensive and flexible care packages. The help and service provided is decided on each occasion between the citizen and the care giver, based on the individual’s current wants and needs. The care package must leave room for changes in the individual citizen’s needs, as well as make it possible for these needs to be met, based on a professional assessment made by the employes surrounding the citizen.

Prevention
The municipality offers preventive help and activities to support senior citizens in preventing loss of functionality and strengthening their ability to stay self-sufficient for as long as possible. This also includes outreach efforts targeted at people with prevention potential.
Loneliness
Preventing loneliness among senior citizens is central to Danish senior citizen policy. Loneliness can lead to reduced quality of life and poorer health. Studies show that senior citizens who receive long-term care are especially prone to experience loneliness and lack of contact.
